A special series in JCO Global Oncology highlights the past and ongoing work of investigators and the multisectoral partnerships that are working to develop a new generation of innovations.

    NCI is partnering with UICC to support the 2026 UICC Technical Fellowships! This unique training opportunity is designed for early-career investigators and program implementers interested in the transfer of cancer control knowledge, skills and techniques through short-term international visits, from two weeks to two months.     The NCI Center for Global Health mourns the loss of Dr. Davetrina Seles Gadson, an extraordinary trailblazer, colleague, collaborator, and friend. Dr. Gadson will forever be remembered for her remarkable contributions, her vibrant spirit, and her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.

    For the first time since 2018, the International Cancer Control Partnership has conducted a global review of 156 national cancer control plans to better understand the current landscape of cancer control strategies. This review reveals progress in national cancer strategies and highlights persistent gaps in funding, equity, and the integration of evidence-based interventions.

    On November 19, 2024, a memorandum of understanding was signed by Dr. Kimryn Rathmell, Director of the U.S. National Cancer Institute and Dr. Seogyoun Kang, Director General of the Republic of Korea National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation.

    Satish Gopal, M.D., M.P.H., director of the Center for Global Health, received the ASCO 2024 Humanitarian Award at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting. This award exemplifies Dr. Gopal's distinguished career and exceptional leadership in global oncology.

    On June 18, 2024, the Center for Global Health welcomed a World Health Organization delegation to the National Cancer Institute for the launch of the third re-designation of the NCI WHO Collaborating Center for Global Cancer Control, renewing the efforts of an eight year partnership with WHO.

    The NCI Center for Global Health is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Lynette Denny, a passionate gynecologic oncologist dedicated to the prevention of cervical cancer in low-resource settings. In continuation of her legacy, the global cancer community will commit to embodying her work and spirit.

    The Ireland - Northern Ireland - National Cancer Institute Cancer Consortium celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year. The Consortium is a unique partnership, established in 1999, between the governments of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the United States, as a direct result of the Good Friday Agreement.

  • U.S. - Sweden IA Signing Ceremony 03.13.24

    On March 13, 2024 the United States and Sweden signed an Implementing Arrangement for Cooperation on Cancer at the House of Sweden in Washington, D.C. Following the signing the Swedish Embassy and the NCI hosted the US-Sweden Cancer Summit to explore and discuss the benefits of international collaborations in cancer research and implementation science.
