Dr. David Sturgill manages the Genomic Data Commons (GDC). He also has expertise in single cell and spatial biology, long-read sequencing technologies, epitranscriptomics, and RNA therapeutics.
Research Programs
Through the management of the GDC, Dr. Sturgill is also involved in activities for NCI programs:
- Childhood Cancer Data Initiative (CCDI)
- Human Tumor Atlas Network (HTAN)
- Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research (ITCR)
Background
Dr. Sturgill joined the NIH in 2003 as a bioinformatician in a Drosophila genomics lab at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). While at NIDDK, he collaborated in consortium science projects for Drosophila comparative genomics and the ENCODE/modENCODE projects.
Dr. Sturgill joined the Laboratory of Receptor Biology and Gene Expression (LRBGE) of NCI in 2013 as a computational staff scientist. He specialized in high-throughput sequencing analysis in support of research on RNA processing and translation, DNA damage and repair, and centromere dynamics. In 2023, he joined the Office of Cancer Genomics.
