NCI constantly publishes new information on its websites, so periodically we provide updates on new content of interest to the cancer community.
New Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer Released
On March 9, 2016, NCI, in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, published the “Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer, 1975-2012” in the journal Cancer. In addition to reporting rates and trends for the most common cancers, this year's report includes a special section about liver cancer, which is increasing in both incidence and mortality in the United States.
Liver Cancer Video Complements Annual Report
A new video released in conjunction with the “Annual Report to the Nation” explains the link between hepatitis B and C infections and liver cancer.
Office of Government and Congressional Relations Expands Web Resources
NCI’s Office of Government and Congressional Relations (OGCR) facilitates relationships among NCI, the U.S. Congress, and the general public. Visit the new OGCR web pages to learn more about legislation relevant to cancer research or care that has been proposed or signed into law, and to view a timeline of key dates involving congressional legislation that affected NCI.
Technology Transfer Center Launches New Website
NCI’s Technology Transfer Center (TTC) facilitates partnerships between NIH research laboratories and external partners. The TTC has launched a new website that includes information about the center’s role in accelerating the commercial development of technologies by establishing research collaborations and licensing among academia, federal laboratories, non-profit organizations, and industry.
New Video Explains Potential of the OncoArray
The NCI-funded OncoArray Network was formed to develop a new custom genotyping array (the "OncoArray") to find genetic variants that are associated with cancer susceptibility. The network brings together multiple disease-based research groups from around the world. In a new video, leading scientists from the Network explain the potential impact of this powerful collaborative effort.
DCEG Releases Spring 2016 Linkage Newsletter
NCI’s Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics has published the Spring 2016 issue of its Linkage newsletter, which features news and summaries of recent research publications, staff updates, organizational news and events, and information about fellowships.
Office of Cancer Genomics Newsletter Available
NCI’s Office of Cancer Genomics has published the February 2016 issue of its newsletter, which features articles on the Cancer Target Discovery and Development (CTD2) network’s new CTD2 Dashboard, enhanced versions of the DNA editing technology CRISPR, and a new research finding from NCI’s TARGET program, among other offerings.
Live Help Now Available in Spanish
NCI’s online instant messaging tool, LiveHelp, is now available in Spanish. Spanish language operators are available Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET, to answer questions about cancer and smoking cessation.
New Drug Information Summary on CEM Combination Therapy Published
New Images Added to NCI Visuals Online
New radiographic images showing tumors associated with several genetic syndromes have been posted to NCI Visuals Online. See x-ray images of hemangioblastoma tumors in the cerebrum and brainstem and images showing the different patterns of kidney tumors caused by genetic disorders.
Revised Fact Sheets Available on Cancer Vaccines, Cell Phones
NCI has updated several fact sheets on its website with new information gathered from recent research. One fact sheet explains the latest science on Cancer Vaccines, while two others describe the available data on the potential cancer risks associated with exposure to non-ionizing radiation from Cell Phones and Electromagnetic Fields.
